What is working
Room navigation, library browsing, album inspection, track lists, booklet viewing when scans exist, recent listening history, Staff Picks and Spotify playback controls.
An experimental macOS app
Browse your music among wooden shelves, pick up an album, and play it through Spotify.
01 / Inside the prototype
Different rooms, different atmospheres.
All images are captured inside the app.
A wall of covers, listening islands, and paths into the genre rooms.
Prototype captures from October 2026. Layout, lighting and features may change.

02 / The browsing experience
Browse the stacks, pull out a jewel case, rotate it and read the tracks. Where scans are available, open the album booklet and turn its pages.
Search for an album or artist and walk to its place in the store. Save a discovery to Staff Picks, or revisit recently played albums.
Features implemented in the working prototype03 / How it works
A visual interface to your collection,
with playback handled by Spotify.
The native Mac helper connects to Spotify with your permission and imports your library information.
Album artwork and metadata populate physical shelves and cases. Walk, search, inspect and explore.
Start an album or track and use play, pause and skip. Audio plays through your own active Spotify device.
04 / Development status
Virtual Jukebox is an independent experiment in making music-library browsing feel physical again. The rooms and interactions shown here are running in Unreal Engine.

Distribution, compatibility across Macs, onboarding, performance and the permissions required for wider Spotify access. No public release date or pricing has been set.
Each user connects their own account. The app uses Spotify’s Web API for library information and remote playback control; it does not download, redistribute or host Spotify audio. Credentials are kept by the native helper in macOS Keychain.
No commercial authorization from Spotify has been obtained. This website presents the prototype for evaluation and discussion. Virtual Jukebox is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by Spotify.
05 / Before requesting access
There is no public download. You can request evaluation access below. Requests are reviewed individually, and testing availability depends on compatibility and Spotify account access.
The current prototype is for Mac. Its native helper requires macOS 15 or later, and Spotify Premium is required for playback through the integration. Performance has been tested on an M1 Ultra; requirements for other Macs are still being evaluated.
No. You use your own Spotify account and subscription. This prototype is an interface for browsing and controlling playback, not a music subscription service.
The app is still in development. Spotify also restricts which accounts can use development-mode integrations. A request does not guarantee access, and no payment is requested.
The gallery above shows actual screenshots of the current prototype. A recorded demonstration is not yet available. Contact us if you are reviewing the integration and would like a walkthrough.
